"First Light" by Abraxas

ABOUT THE COVER
Abraxas painted the original oil of "First Light" during the summer of 1997. This famous Cape Henlopen Lighthouse of Lewes, Delaware, was financed by the American Colonists of the mid 1700'5, with inspiration from Thomas Jefferson and advertising in Ben Franklin's newspaper. The tower was completed in 1765 to mark our Cape with its beam and protect sailors. The "In Service" pennant of the Light House Service {shown) flew the final time September 30, 1924.

Abraxas used old drawings, writings, and photographs, to see how the tower, keeper's house, and storage building for lamp oil, might have looked that final day, as the sun rose. Protective shutters are shown closed at the top of the tower before they were removed along with the lamp and lens inside.

Abraxas graduated from Cape Henlopen High School, and The New Renaissance Academy of Living Oils in Freeland, Washington. He apprenticed in techniques of Leonardo Da Vinci under Master Libby Berry. He sold his first oil to a Seattle gallery owner's personal collection, which paid for most of his schooling. At nineteen, Abraxas began as assistant instructor under master Libby Berry. He lives in Lewes, Boca Raton, and Seattle, and takes his studio with him. His 900 "First Light" prints are signed and numbered. Nearly 200 were sold in the first few weeks.
