November 1996 - ART AROUND TOWN FEATURES ABRAXAS

Lewes will abound with art tonight during annual Arts Council benefit.

The Sussex County Arts council is presenting its second annual Art Around Town tour tonight throughout downtown Lewes, restaurants and businesses. Beginning at 5:30 and ending at 8 p.m., Art Around Town this year is boasting a wide variety of art by over 20 area artists. Many of the 15 locations will offer complimentary hors d'oeuvres.

One of the hottest young artists around, Brax Hudson from Lewes, will take part in the exhibition, featuring his work at Jerry's American Cafe.

Hudson is a 1993 graduate of Cape Henlopen High School and is already known locally and nationally for his oil portraits in the style of the classic masters such as Rembrandt and DaVinci.

Hudson recently returned from Mill Creek, Wash. where he delivered an oil portrait to noted international industrialist and art collector P.E. Goodwin. Goodwin's extensive collection of notable artists never included a solitary portrait of himself before.

In over 50 years of collecting fine, classical art, Goodwin has established himself as a consummate critic and connoisseur of the best in American oil painting by living artists. He now has four portraits by Hudson and has ordered a fifth.

While in Washington Hudson also commenced work on "Falls Creek Falls", a moody and dramatic oil portrait of water, rock, sky and earth.

This newest piece will be exhibited along with nine charcoal paintings and photographs of some of his sold works. Hudson will have signed boxes of his note cards on eastern lighthouses, several of the charcoals and "Falls Creek Falls" available for purchase.
