The first step in this process is imagining in your mind what you want in terms
of subject matter, overall feeling, price and where you will hang the painting.
I will assist you on a personal basis either in person or via telephone whichever
is more practical.
Once you have decided on a subject it is important that I get an idea of what
you envision whether it is a mental idea or a physical place. There are circumstances
when an in-person observation is not possible but the best method is for me to
visit the place and sketch and photograph the area. I can work directly from photographs
however photos are usually inaccurate in terms of color and perspective. This
research phase is the most important as this is the foundation from which I will
create your painting.
This is the time for a free flow of thoughts as to what direction you want me
to go with your painting. Discussion is essential and if you have a particular
feeling that you want the end product to convey please let me know-perhaps there
is a certain time of day, an era of the past, or a painting of mine that you would
like for me to keep in mind. Remember this is your painting and I want you to
love it!
Now that I know what you want in the painting I can give you my recommendations
for a final concept and price. This is the point where we agree on the details
of the project and I continue... I will then allign the creation of your painting
with my schedule and give you start and finish dates. These can vary due to current
projects and the amount of work involved in your painting. Exact dates can be
set but remember that this is an original work of art.
During the final phase of painting I will seek your approval to continue and ask
if any changes need to be made. This will be carried out either in person, photographically,
or high resolution e-mail.
Upon approval, the final payment is due and arrangements will be started to deliver
the painting to you.
Framing of the painting is not included in the price, however I will be happy
to give you recommendations or have the painting framed in a style you choose.
Oil Painting Fees
My goal when painting is to create an image that is as close to life as possible.
Often I will go beyond what is really there and create my own enhanced version
of reality-this may be in the form of an unusual weather pattern or exaggerated
lighting. The idea is to captivate the viewer and bring that person in to the
world I have created. That is what drives me to paint each piece to the best of
my ability.
Only the finest materials available in the world are used to ensure that your
painting will last-'Old Holland' lightfast paints and Belgian Linen are a combination
that has been proven to endure for hundreds of years.
I have been asked to paint many subjects and each I have found creates it's own
challenge. It is hard to set fee guidelines for work I have yet to envision but
these are the general categories. Please inquire for a more precise estimate.
